Frank Lloyd Wright's original drawings included a site plan with a proposed future wing, shown here. Unfortunately, Wright passed away during construction of the primary house and the future wing was never built. The drawing does, however, indicate an understanding that the modest house would benefit from an addition, and provides a provisional location and form for the expansion. Note that this original drawing also includes doors connecting each of the bedrooms to the terrace. As originally intended by Wright, the outdoor space would link the two wings of house. However, Olfelts' son explained that his parents were uncomfortable with the children having direct access outside from their bedrooms. The doors were thus changed to windows, disrupting this original intention.
